The voice, from each dossier
A psychological archetype explains why multiple cultures might independently produce a dead thing that feeds on the living. It does not explain why those cultures would independently produce the same specific list of biological attributes, the same specific set of countermeasures, and the same specific behavioural observations, too mechanistically precise and too practically functional to have been generated by symbolic thinking. Archetypes are thematically consistent but mechanistically vague. Biological observations are the reverse. The vampire myth passes this test decisively.
The moon does not emit radiation. It reflects sunlight at an albedo of approximately twelve per cent, producing at its brightest perhaps one three-hundred-thousandth of noon. And yet something is happening. At full moon, and only at full moon, the opposition surge delivers a high-coherence photon flux with a documented wavelength dependence concentrated near 415 nm — the secondary activation shoulder of melanopsin, sitting on the ipRGCs that do not make images. A bright lamp at equivalent lux does not reproduce this. Gibbous moonlight does not. The Lycian trigger is not magic. The traditions are unanimous on the verify-before-engage principle and unanimous on the consequences of its violation. The failure mode of non-verification is not encountering a target more dangerous than expected. The failure mode of non-verification is engaging a baseline-human individual who fits several Phase One criteria for entirely mundane reasons, with the full force of an operational response designed for an organism several times more capable than a baseline human. No individual criterion is diagnostic. The combination is.
This document is classified as ACTIVE CONTAINMENT, not THEORETICAL and not OPEN INVESTIGATION. Those designations belong to the source frameworks. The distinction is deliberate. The source frameworks are theories. They present hypothetical mechanisms, make predictions, and invite testing. This document is not a theory. It is a threat assessment in force. The compilers of those frameworks were not working for us. They were not working for the Quorum. They were working for the record. The Committee respects this. The Committee also notes that working for the record and working for the survival of the baseline human population are not always the same objective.
The blood assay designated YML-001-BA is a standard Soviet military haematological panel, Form GRU-MED-7. Forty-two indexed parameters. In a baseline human subject the third column would contain forty-two numerical entries. In the specimen designated Subject-14-Alpha, the third column contains seven. The remaining thirty-five fields contain zeroes or the notation N/D — not detected. Core body temperature: 40.2 °C. Haemoglobin: 22.4 g/dL. White cells: undetectable. Serum iron: 847 μg/dL — the attending pathologist wrote the value in the margin because it exceeded the printed field width. Blood pH: 6.91. The compiler has reviewed this data set seventeen times over eleven years. The result has not changed.
