Thermal-gradient component of the mirror phenomenon
HHDRV Ch. 19 · App. F
Specificity is a refractive gradient in the boundary layer of air adjacent to cold skin. Foxing on unsealed silver is conservation literature, not a claim of the organism. The thermal gradient has never been measured.
Background-oriented schlieren imaging at thirty to sixty centimetres. The framework predicts a gradient measurably steeper than a baseline human control at matched ambient temperature and humidity. No candidate need be identified in advance: a sufficiently large unselected screening would establish whether any individual exhibits the profile.

A controlled screening in which no subject returns a boundary-layer gradient exceeding the baseline human range falsifies the thermal-gradient component. Tarnish stands independently. The phenotype-specific attachment of the folklore would then require a cultural explanation alone.
